Effect of statins against cancer

The use of statins was not associated with an increased risk of cancer. This is based on the results of retrospective analysis conducted by dr. Claudio Marelli et al. of S2 Statistical Solutions in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States, and has been published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology July 2011 issue. While another study, conducted by Jenny Poyntern et al. from the Departments of Epidemiology University of Michigan, United States, showed that statin use is accompanied with a reduction in relative risk of colorectal cancer by 47%. Elizabeth Platz et al. from the Department of Epidemiology, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, showed that administration of statins is not associated with risk of prostate cancer and even reduce the risk of prostate cancer.
